Song Story

Qualifying for ASOP contest was a dream come true for Romarico Mendiola Jr., who is a tricycle driver from Tacloban City.

“Ang Iyong Pangalan” was Romarico’s first composition, formerly written in Waray dialect. Without the benefit of a formal music education, he formed the concept of his musical piece bit by bit while waiting for passengers. He has been crafting the words and melody for eight years until he finally concluded his efforts with a perfect song about glorifying God.

The judges lauded the musical composition for its strong emotion and lyric-melody compatibility. Judge Mon del Rosario described the words as golden and recognized its strong bridge section.

Romarico was overwhelmed and inspired by the panel’s commendations of his composition and expressed his willingness to write more songs of praise.
