Episode 197/ Aired on June 28
Hot on the heels of his victory last week, newbie composer Leonardo de Jesus III concluded this month’s last battle of the best with another stunning win.
His song, “Pahintulutan Mo,” bested more experienced songwriters like Alejandro Jimenez whose entry “Karapatdapat Kang Pasalamatan,” was commended by resident judge Doc Mon del Rosario as one of the best melodies he has heard in ASOP’s four years.
The other contender was Dennis Avenido who made Doc Mon’s head ache because he had a hard time finding fault in Avenido’s song “Ang Pagmamahala Mo,” until he conceded that it was already mighty fine as it was.
In the end there could only be one, and he is the choirboy now certified award-winning composer Leonardo de Jesus III.
Other memorable highlights of the show were courtesy of everyone’s favorite judge Arnel Ignacio who never pulled back any punchlines for anyone in the room. He called out the judges’ penchant for laying on the compliments too thickly and raising the hopes of contestants, “ Umiyak pa yun (Alejandro)kanina, kala panalo na siya,” Arnel chided.
At one point he commented on one contestant’s air of confidence, “Confident na confident ka ngayon ah, nag lipstick at powder ka pa,” as people roared with laughter.
All in all it was an inspiring night as we welcome another exciting month of surprising talents.
