Song Story

ASOP contestants come in all shape and form. The show has seen some wonderful works come from unexpected sources. Such was the case of Rolan, a tricycle driver from Quezon City, whose humble stature in life hides a heart of a poet.

For Rolan, writing a praise song is never wearisome. “Masaya sa puso ko na gumagawa ako ng praise song,” he said.” Ni-relate ko po ‘yung dati kong buhay sa trabaho ko ngayon bilang isang tricycle driver. Na parang tumatakbo ako sa isang daan na dapat may patunguhan. Para marating ko iyon, dapat ipa-drive ko sa Dios ang buhay ko.”

(I have happiness in my heart for I am able to write a praise song.)
(My job as a tricycle driver relates to how I run my life. I am driving through a road that should lead somewhere. To reach my destination, I should let the God drive my life.)

All three judges came to a unanimous decision that this was “a song to beat.”

“Gumamit siya ng mga ordinaryong salita para i-express ang isang bagay na malalim,”complimented in-house critic Mon del Rosario.
(He used ordinary words to express something profound)

“Type na type ko yung theme mo…Tatawagin ko yung awit mo na everybody’s song,”said broadway actress, Isay Alvarez.
(I really like this song. I want to call this an ‘everybody’s song.)

“Wagi ang concept mo,” added the multi-awarded songwriter-arranger, Jungee Marcelo
(You have a winning concept.)

The amateur composer was speechless upon hearing all the positive comments of the judges.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Dios at pinabigyan Niya po ang hiling ko na..sinamahan Niya po talaga ako.” (“I am really thankful that God gave me the opportunity to write this song.)
