Song Story

Breaking out from the usual mold of ballad praise songs, Maria Loida’s reggae-pop, “Mahal Mo Ako” is a sunny, happy number that sings of God’s love as reflected in nature.

“Para sa mga tao na feeling nila walang nagmamahal sa kanila, tingin lang sila sa paligid kasi yung Panginoon natin, ipinapakita Niya sa iba’t-ibang paraan angpagmamahal Niya sa atin,” says Loida. (For those who feel like nobody loves them, just look around. God expresses His love in many different ways.)

Maria Loida is a yukelele player and loves writing songs. It was her first time to join ASOP.

Songwriter/producer Ito Rapadas, who was one of the judges at the time, described the song as “flawless” and “exceptional.” He said, “The simplicity and directness of the melody are the main qualities of Loida’s song composition.”

Top critic Mon del Rosario commented that he had a hard time finding errors in the song. “Ang ganda ng konsepto. Ang ganda ng melody. Ang ganda ng lyrics. Ang linaw ng mensahe, at higit sa lahat, ang ganda ng interpretasyon. Ang ganda lahat eh!” (The concept, lyrics, melody are all good. The message of the song is clear. The interpretation is perfect. Everything is remarkable.)

For Maria Loida, she only hopes for one thing when people hear her song,”ma-realize nila kung gaano sila kamahal ng Dios.” (I hope that everyone who listens to the song will be able to realize how much God loves them.)
