“Dakila Ka Ama” is more than entry for composer Ella Mae Septimo- it’s the soundtrack of her new beginning in life.

In 2014, Ella Mae faced the daunting challenge of unplanned pregnancy at a young age and the stigma that goes with it. Depression and disappointment prompted her to compose a song of praise that healed her broken spirit. “That time po noong ipinagbubuntis ko po ‘young baby ko, medyo depressed ako. Si Lord po ‘young nagbigay sa akin ng way para po makapag-compose po ng komposisyong ito,” she said. (Before my child was born, I was depressed. The Lord paved the way for me to write this song.)

By December,she marched onto the ASOP stage heavy with child as she presented her song, “Dakila Ka Ama” to an impressed audience. Her winning streak carried over until the monthly finals but the climax of her saga was a day after the taping when she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

“Sobrang dakila po ng love ng Lord sa atin…lalo na po nang ipinanganak ko po ‘yung baby girl ko. Sobrang thankful ko po kay Lord,” added Ella Mae.
(God’s love toward us is great, especially now that my baby girl is born. I am very thankful to the Lord.”)

The judges had only good things to say about her work.

“Favorite ko na ‘to. Ang ganda talaga ng song, sobra,” said “Front Act Queen” Dessa.
(This is already my favorite. The song is really beautiful.”),

“Very powerful yung chorus. It’s a beautiful song,” commended Rannie Raymundo.

“The lyrics are simple and so sincere,” commented 80’s music icon Pat Castillo.

Needless to say, the young mother,and now an award-winning composer, was grateful for her victory.

“Hindi po nagbabago ang Dios. Ang pagmamahal Niya sa atin umaapaw at hindi matutumbasan ng kahit ano pa.” (God never changes. His love overflows and is unparalleled.)
