Can you still find it in your heart to give thanks to the Lord in the face of adversity?

Seasoned songwriter Dennis Roxas contemplated on this thought which eventually became the central theme of his first praise song composition.

Drawing from experience when one of his family members got sick, Dennis realized that the true test of one’s faith is continuing to trust in God’s love and plans in the midst of bad circumstances. “Kung magkakaproblema ang tao tapos magpapasalamat sa Dios, e ‘di lalong lalabas ‘young faith niya kay God,” he said. ( If a man can still thank the Lord while facing grave problems, his faith shines through.)

“Salamat Po Ama” (Thank You Father) hooks you from the get go with curious lyrics that seem disconnected with the light and happy melody. But it all comes together neatly at the end.

This Bulaceño composer first heard about ASOP through a fellow member of the Songwriters Philippines. Although Dennis is used to writing songs in various genres,he admits having a hard time writing this piece.

His efforts paid off based on its success and the compliments from judges.

“Bihira sa kanta na makuha mo agad ang atensyon ng nakikinig sa first 15 seconds,” says top critic Mon del Rosario. (It is rare for a song to hook you within 15 seconds of listening to it.)

According to Dennis,”Salamat Po Ama” is an encouraging reminder that, “Kahit anong mangyari, magpasalamat ka kasi sa kabila noon, merong maganda lagi… May plano si God and it’s always good.” (Give thanks despite what happens…God has a plan and it’s always good.)
