ASOP inspires 5 composers

ASOP has proven once again how it serves as an instrument to inspire people from different walks of life to compose songs of praises. Last Sunday, A total of 5 amateur composers compete to fill the 3rd slot of finalist for the month of March.

First off was “Aking Ama” composed by water instrument technician Joel Talagtag and interpreted by Jaya’s niece, Anne Ramsey. Next entry was “Ang Buhay ng Kristiyanong Tunay” composed by buddies Jeff Cabrera and Jon Jovet Glico and performed by Bryan Olano. The final entry was the lengthy-titled “My Tear-filled Handkerchief Will Run Dry” by New York-based composers Pabemazar Atienza and Hernanie Ramos. Atienza’s and Ramos’ composition was performed by Kellyboy Ricafort.

Resident critic, Mon “Doktor Musiko” del Rosario was joined by 70s music icon Pat Castillo and singer/record executive Ito Rapadas as guest judges. It was a challenging week not only for composers but for the panel of judges as well. All three judges admitted that they find it difficult to select a winner for all entries are tough competitors. Doc Mon even stated that can it be possible to have a triple tie. But in the end, it was “My Tear-filled Handkerchief Will Dry” which hailed Song of the Week with an impressive average score of 95.33%.
